Easy to care for & durable – Keep your sheepskin gear looking like new
Sheepskin is tough, natural, and extremely durable – if you know how to care for it properly. Here, you’ll learn how to keep your gear soft, fluffy, and fully functional through rain, mud, and everyday use.
Why proper sheepskin care is so important
Sheepskin is a true natural talent: it regulates moisture, keeps you warm without overheating, and adapts to every movement. To preserve these qualities in the long term, it needs a simple but targeted care routine.
Especially in winter weather, rain, or heavy sweating, proper care protects the material, prevents matting, and ensures your sheepskin product stays beautiful for years.
The right routine for daily use
Air dry: After bad weather or sweating, always let it dry naturally first – never on a heater.
Brush: Once dry, gently brush in the direction of the fibers. This keeps the sheepskin loose, soft, and voluminous.
Wash: If needed, use the wool cycle (30 °C) with a special sheepskin detergent like C7. Regular detergent can damage the leather.
Air dry completely: Never use direct heat. Lay flat and shake out several times.
Common Mistakes – and how to avoid them
Sheepskin needs little, but thw right care. Avoid these mistakes:
Heather & dryer: Leather becomes hard, brittle, and shrinks.
Wrong detergent: Regular detergent destroys the structure – always use a special sheepskin detergent.
Storing damp: This causes odors, deformation, or mold.
Overwashing: Often, airing out and brushing is completely sufficient.
Sustainability & quality – why proper care counts twice
Our sheepskin products are made using our own ECO2L process – resource-efficient, low in harmful substances, and crafted with the utmost care. Proper care is key to maintaining this quality for years. WERNER CHRIST HORSE sheepskin gear can be cared for sustainably in just a few simple steps:
Machine washable on the wool cycle at 30 °C, ideally with our specially developed C7 detergent, which is gentle on leather and wool while being environmentally friendly. After washing, products can be gently dried in the dryer at low temperature or air-dried in the shade – regular shaking and brushing preserves volume and suppleness.
The better you care for your sheepskin, the longer it stays elastic, soft, and fully functional. This reduces material wear and the need for replacement.
